Amosov Nikolay Mikhailovich - Born on December 6, 1913, in the village of Olkhovo,Volgograd province.
Soviet and Ukrainian doctor, medical scientist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1969) and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (1969) 1993), laureate of the Lenin Prize (1961), the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in the field of science and technology (1978, 1988) and the State Prize Ukraine in the field of science and technology (1997). Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery (1983-1988). Doctor of Medical Sciences (1953), Hero of Socialist Labor (1973).
Was born in a peasant family. Mother was a midwife, she worked in a village near the city of Cherepovets. My father went to the First World War in 1914, and when he returned, he soon left the family. From the age of 12 to 18 he studied in Cherepovets at a school, then at a mechanical technical school.
From 1932 he worked in Arkhangelsk as a shift supervisor at a power plant at a sawmill. In 1934 he began studying at the Correspondence Industrial Institute. In 1935 he entered the Arkhangelsk Medical Institute, from which he graduated with honors in 1939. Together with work in medicine, he continued his studies at the correspondence institute. The theme for the diploma was the project of a large airplane with a steam turbine.
In 1940 he received an engineering degree with honors. After graduating from the institute and before the start of the German-Soviet war, he worked as a surgeon at a hospital in Cherepovets. He worked in the mobilization commission, and after a while he was appointed chief surgeon in the Field Mobile Hospital. After that he worked as a surgeon in Moscow.
From 1947 to 1952 he worked as the chief surgeon of the Bryansk regional health department and at that time he began to widely engage in thoracic surgery, carried out a lot of scientific work.
In 1952 he moved to Ukraine in Kiev, where he lived for 49 years. In March 1953 he defended his doctoral dissertation in medicine on the topic "Resection of the lungs in tuberculosis".
In 1955, Nikolai Amosov created and headed the country's first department of thoracic surgery for the improvement of doctors.
In 1958, he began to collaborate with the Institute of Cybernetics in the field of physiological studies of the heart. In 1963, for the first time in the USSR, he made a mitral valve prosthesis.
The Clinic for Cardiac Surgery, which was headed by Amosov, was reorganized in 1983 into the Kiev Research Institute of Cardiac Surgery. About 3,000 heart surgeries are performed at the institute every year, including about 2,000 with cardiopulmonary bypass.
N. M. Amosov is the author of more than 400 scientific papers, including 19 monographs. A number of monographs have been republished in the USA , Japan , Germany , Bulgaria . 40 Doctors and more than 150 Candidates of Sciences have been trained at the institute he found
ed , many of them head large scientific centers .
