Nebulas is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform and operating system featuring smart contract (scripting) functionality. It supports a modified version of Nakamoto consensus via transaction-based state transitions, providing a decentralized virtual machine, the Nebulas Virtual Machine (NVM), which can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes. It also features a decentralized search framework that allows users to search for multi-type data in different blockchains.

Its framework includes:

• Nebulas Rank (NR) measures value by considering liquidity and propagation of the address.

• Nebulas Force (NF) supports upgrading core protocols and smart contracts on the chains.

• Developer Incentive Protocol (DIP) builds the blockchain ecosystem.

• Proof of Devotion (PoD) is a Consensus Algorithm that builds a healthy ecosystem.

• Search engine for decentralized applications constructs a search engine for decentralized

applications based on Nebulas value ranking.

Its native cryptocurrency is NAS, whose blockchain is generated by the Nebulas platform. NAS can be transferred between accounts and used to compensate participant mining nodes for computations performed. There is a fixed supply of 100 million NAS.

Hitter Xu, Robin Zhong and Aero Wang founded Nebulas in 2017.
