NP Photonics proposes to design and develop high power fiber combiners for kW-level fiber amplifiers. The advantages of the proposed fiber combiners include high power handling capability, extremely low loss for the signal laser, capability of bi-directional pumping, and high compatibility with conventional double-clad fibers and microstructured double-clad fibers. In this Phase I program, we will investigate the feasibility of, and study the risk to, high power fiber combiners using proposed technologies. High power pump signal fiber combiners meeting or exceeding the requirements of kW-level fiber amplifiers will be developed and characterized in Phase II.
