MasterCard paid attention to the growing popularity of cryptocurrency payments. It conducted a survey and found that up to 40 percent of its customers are ready to start paying for goods and services with bitcoin and other virtual coins in the next 12 months.
More than 15,500 people living in 18 states took part in the survey. The younger generation of respondents is more positive about digital currencies. 67% of millennials are willing to use them as a payment instrument.
77% of young people surveyed said they want to learn as much as possible about digital currencies and options for their use. Among the 40% who favor using bitcoin to pay for goods and services, the lion's share resides in Asia-Pacific, North America and the Middle East.
The MasterCard giant also drew attention to people's interest in adopting crypto as soon as possible. The study noted that more and more people would like to see states develop a regulatory framework for the industry. This would protect the interests of digital asset holders.
Craig Vosburg, a top MasterCard executive, said his company should allow any of its customers to use bitcoin or another coin in the near future. The digital economy should work for everyone, the representative of the payment giant stressed.
Interest in cryptocurrencies is also growing in Russia.
Alexander Brazhnikov, the executive director of RACIB (Russian Association of Cryptoindustry and Blockchain), said back in February that the coronavirus pandemic and bitcoin price growth were the main factors stimulating our compatriots to get more information about the cryptosphere.
