Digital twins mirror a real-world system to let designers and engineers examine in realistic detail how different conditions will affect it. However with their deployments, digital twins literally open their own cyberattack surfaces. Without cyber means of protection, digital twins can provide cyber criminals with a new way to access and exploit sensitive information. Another concern is that digital twins could also be used by cyber criminals as a way to access and learn to attack the modeled physical assets. To mitigate these risks, Metronome Software, LLC proposes the development of the Digital AI Secure Twin (DAST) System as a proactive approach to securing digital twins. The DAST System merges the digital twin technologies with two other technologies, being Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI, including neural network (NN) and machine learning (ML)). DAST AI technology provides automated methods for cybersecurity protection and digital twin processor(s), whereas DAST Big Data technology brings the scalability to cope with the vast amounts of incoming data. The Big Data AI-powered cybersecurity part envelopes the DAST System’s digital twin with cyber protection; whereas the DAST digital twin operates within its own containerization boundary; forming a double-layer protection for DAST System.
