Abstract

The goal of this SBIR proposal is to develop a small size, low power, Anti Jamming (AJ) module GPS In-line Filter (GIF) module, which consists of Auto tune Filter (AtF) and Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) as primary components. The proposed module will be a plug and play module and will be electrically and mechanically designed to be integrated between antenna and RF input port of GPS receiver.  The proposed GIF module will enhance the anti-jamming capability of single antenna, SWAP constrained GPS receivers by at least 20 dB to 30 dB.  Metamagnetics’ proposed approach involves developing AtFs as the core chip device. AtF is a passive (zero power consumption) analog signal processing technology and is capable of attenuating only the high power jamming signals without affecting signal of interest (SOI). AtF does not need any kind of feedback, control, or algorithms to detect and suppress jamming signals. Our AtF technology utilizes advanced magnetic materials that exhibit non-linear microwave properties to enable automatic discrimination of signals based on power level. The transmission response of AtF adjusts rapidly (in few ns) and automatically, in real time, such that no portion of the output spectrum exceeds a designated power threshold. AtFs are capable of mitigating multiple interfering signals without prior knowledge of the timing, power or the frequency content of the interferers. This makes the AtF technology a more agile, adaptive, and SWaP+C efficient alternative to conventional electromagnetic interference mitigation and anti-jam technologies.
