Maurits Cornelis Escher (born June 17, 1898 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands) was a Dutch illustrator, photographer, and designer. Escher was educated at both the Delft University of Technology and the Architecture Technology Corporation. He held citizenship in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Escher passed away on March 27, 1972, in Hilversum.
Escher was known for his work in drawing and printmaking. His notable works include "Hand with Reflecting Sphere", "Relativity", "Waterfall", "Still Life with Spherical Mirror", and "Ascending and Descending". His art was mainly categorized in genres such as abstract art, still life, cityscape, landscape painting, and self-portrait. He received the Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau award.
