Ludwig von Mises (29 September 1881 – 10 October 1973) was a philosopher, writer, and economist. He was born in Lviv and died in New York City. Mises was educated at the University of Vienna and Akademisches Gymnasium in Vienna.
He was a doctoral advisor to various students, including Friedrich Hayek, Murray Rothbard, Oskar Morgenstern, Israel Kirzner, Fritz Machlup, Gottfried Haberler, and Gerhard Tintner. Mises' own doctoral advisor was Eugen Böhm von Bawerk.
