Limbic

Limbic is a London-based company with a product that combines machine learning with biometric data collected by wearable devices to infer the emotional state of the user.The product is able to detect six emotional states and is intended to alert users when they are feeling stressed so that the emotion can be managed before damaging effects occur.

The software collects a user's data from a wearable device, such as an Apple Watch, Samsung Gear, or FitBit. Data from the device regarding the user's heartbeat is collected in order to measure their emotional state. Changes in the limbic area of the brain, which controls the emotions of a person, leave a signature in the user's heartbeat. Users can track their stress levels and make informed decisions about their lifestyle choices that affect their stress levels and emotional state.

Other applications on the user's phone can be linked to Limbic and send alerts according to the user's stress level. For example, if Limbic is sensing that a user is stressed, a meditation application on the user's mobile device can send a notification to the user to suggest a meditation, if the application is already on the device.
