Lightform is a company that develops an augmented reality (AR) hardware and software. It was established in 2014 by Brett Jones, Kevin Karsch, and Rajinder Sodhi. Lightform aims to design AR technology that is easy to access and use. The company is based in San Francisco, California.
Lightform has two main products: the hardware, LF1, and the software, Lightform Creator. LF1 is a 3D scanner and media player that provides AR effects when it is paired with an image projector. LF1 performs this function by capturing the object that would be enhanced through AR application with its camera. After calibrating the image data according to the projector lens, the images are sent to the user’s laptop. Using the Lightform Creator, users can then apply AR effects based on their needs.
Since its year of establishment, Lightform has received a fund total of $7.7 million, with its most recent round held in November 2017, which was a seed round. This round raised $5 million in capital from seven investors. To date, Lightform has received funding from nine investors; some of them being Dolby Family Ventures, Anorak Ventures, CrunchFund, and Presence Capital.
