LabCentral is a non-for-profit organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that provides shared laboratory space for life sciences and biotech startups. Its 70,000 square-foot facility offers fully permitted laboratory and office space for up to 60 startups comprising of approximately 200 scientists and entrepreneurs.
LabCentral was funded in part by two $5 million grants from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, with support from its real-estate partner, MIT. Founding sponsors include Triumvirate Environmental and Johnson & Johnson Innovation. Lab operations officially began in November 2013.
In addition to the lab facilities, LabCentral also provides a variety of other services that early stage companies may require, including administrative support, skilled laboratory personnel, a domain-relevant speaker series.
In December 2017, with support from Pfizer, the company opened another lab, LabCentral610. It has an additional 33,000 square-foot of space capable of supporting up to 6 startups. As of 2018, the facilities have the capacity to serve around 450 scientists and entrepreneurs of about 70 companies.
