Sergeant-noble family in the Kharkiv region. He came from the Cossack centurion Semyon Kovalevskyi, who in the middle of the 17th century. at the head of a detachment of immigrants from the village. Vilshany in Kyiv region (near Boguslav) moved to Slobidska Ukraine and founded a settlement there, named after the native village - Vilshany. His son Vasily (b. 1682) was a Kharkiv regimental convoy, and his great-grandson Peter (b. 1828) was a colonel and had sons, Evgraf, a mining engineer and minister of the people. Education of the Russian Empire), Peter (1808-55; lieutenant general, served in the Guards Artillery, mortally wounded during the Crimean War of 1853-1856), Yegor (traveler, statesman and writer) and Michael (b. b. with unknown).

The genus is recorded in the 6th part of the genealogical book of the Kharkiv province.

Maksym Maksymovych, a sociologist, historian, lawyer and public figure, also belonged to this family (according to the EU, vol. 3. Lviv, 1994).
