Intelligence analysts are increasingly drowning in a flood of human and computer generated information. The “paperless office,â€Â the World Wide Web, and advances in document management and analysis technologies are making it increasingly difficult to identify and utilize key information. Improvements in semantic modeling, natural language processing, and collaboration technology may provide significant leverage to address this problem. In order to address this challenge and exploit the opportunity, the goal of the proposed project is to enhance, refine, validate, mature, and transition a focused military application of the Collaborative Analysis and Knowledge Exploration (CAKE) technology that enables semantic knowledge creation from multi-source text and image data through the use of semantic tagging and collaborative visual approaches. This effort will refine the new capabilities that were produced by the first CAKE Phase II SBIR project in order to ensure rapid transition of the capability to an Air Force application. The proposed effort will (i) establish focused technology application requirements; (ii) refine and enhance the CAKE methods; (iii) refine the CAKE architecture; (iv) incrementally demonstrate, validate, refine, and harden the CAKE technology application leading to accelerated transition to military and commercial applications.
