John Boyd Dunlop (1840-1921) was a veterinary physician born in Dreghorn, United Kingdom. He held citizenship in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Dunlop was educated at the University of Edinburgh and spent a major part of his life working in the city of Dublin, where he also died.
Dunlop is known for founding Dunlop Tyres and has made significant contributions to the development of sports shoes. In recognition of his innovations, he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006.
