James Drake

James Drake is the Founder and Chairman of the Future Science Publishing Group. He is a philanthropist focused on science publishing and education. He enjoys art and portrait creation in his free time.

James earned a biochemistry degree at the University of Leeds. After school, he moved on to work at the British Industrial Biological Research Association (BIBRA) on food toxicology research before moving into academic publishing. At Elsevier, James worked as Commissioning Editor before moving to Academic Press and the position of Senior Editor. He joined Current Drugs Ltd in 1987 where he started the Current Opinion journals, pulling information on pharmaceutical patents to highlight monthly and covering a wide range of medical topics in his publication.

In the early 1990s, James shifted away from organisation work to found Ashley Publications Ltd and Expert Reviews Ltd. In 2003 he founded Future Medicine Ltd and Future Science Ltd under the Future Science Group umbrella. Ashley Publications Ltd was acquired by Informa PLC in 2005.

As Founder and Chairman of the Future Science Publishing Group, James has been able to encompass journals and community websites, like Nanomedicine and Regenerative Medicine, Neuro Central, and Oncology Central. The publications were established to offer cutting-edge, peer-reviewed scientific journals to the scientific and medical community. James insightfully expanded the group over time to include digital and virtual publishing hubs, run events, offer creative services, and provide publishing solutions.

James Drake is a highly analytical individual who believes in thinking about the future with rational and calculated strategies. Since most people are naturally emotional on a subconscious level and driven by impulse, he believes in the value of regular times to pull out of the rut and slow down to evaluate. This reasoned approach has gotten him far into his ventures and is a big part of how he helps others around him push towards similar success.

The Drake Foundation was established by James Drake In 2014 to unite sports with science. Much of the work within the foundation has examined sports concussions and head injury. James is closely tied with the work done within the foundation to make an impact for athletes, as well as offer clarity to neurodegenerative diseases, like dementia.

James has the mind and heart of an entrepreneur. He never delved into a big financial venture, but started small and worked to build the publishing companies without financial backing. He is driven to make a difference and empathise with those around him.
