Jake Shears , born Jason F. Sellards on October 3, 1978 , is an American musician and singer . He is best known as the creator and a member of the band Scissor Sisters . Shears was born in Mesa, Arizona and holds United States citizenship .

Shears attended Occidental College and Northwest School . Throughout his career, he has explored various genres, such as alternative rock , pop music , rock music , and glam rock . He has made a name for himself in the music industry .
