Inverton

Intergenic invertible DNA regions flanked by inverted repeats that are likely recognized by invertase enzymes, that invert the region in a reversible manner. Invertons contain a promoter or other gene regulatory element that can be in the ON position, an orientation that matches the flanking gene region, or in the reverse OFF orientation.
