Hetero Drugs Limited, also known as Hetero, is an India-based pharmaceutical company specializing in researching, developing, producing, and selling generic medicines. It also produces active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), which are necessary for the function of medications. Hetero was founded in 1993 and has a presence in more than 140 countries throughout the world with its research and development facilities as well as manufacturing facilities.
Hetero develops medicinal products and services with several areas of focus, including APIs, global generics, biosimilars, and custom pharmaceutical services (CPS).
The company offers more than 300 APIs for drugs and medicines related to different illnesses. They are manufactured across fifteen facilities that are designed for bulk production. Some APIs that Hetero manufactures include anastrozole, sertraline hydrochloride, and dexlansoprazole.
Hetero is also a supplier of generic drugs. It states that it is the largest supplier of anti-retroviral drugs, which can be used to treat HIV/AIDs. It also develops drugs and medications for illnesses such as cancer, hepatitis C, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19.
The company started producing biosimilars in 2009. It has manufacturing and research and development facilities that meet the standards of the Food and Drug Administration. Since its inception, Hetero has launched five biosimilar products.
Custom Pharmaceutical Services (CPS) is a manufacturing service that is offered by Hetero. Other pharmaceutical companies can partner with Hetero and use this service to research, develop, and manufacture pharmaceutical products.
