Gnip was a social media application programming interface (API) aggregation company that provided data analysis behind public posts on social media networks. Gnip was integrated with dozens of social media websites, including Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, YouTube, WordPress, Flickr, Six Apart, Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit, and Bitly. The company was founded in 2008 by Eric Marcoullier and Jud Valeski.
In April 2014, Gnip was acquired by Twitter for an undisclosed amount, which was later revealed to be $134 million in a combination of cash and stock. The acquisition resulted in shares of Twitter's stock rising by 11 percent on the day of the announcement.
