Girl Effect is a non-profit organization that creates youth brands and mobile platforms to empower vulnerable and marginalized young to change their lives and make positive decisions on their health, education, and economic future. It focuses on the stimulation of the economic growth and reduction of poverty in the global South.
It aids them to create applications that build skills, TV dramas that showcase vital issues, and magazines written and distributed by girls. Girl Effect's youth brands are Zathu, Yegna, Tujibebe, and Ni Nyampinga. Its mobile platforms are Springster and TEGA.
The Nike Foundation founded Girl Effect in 2004. In 2015, it became independent from the foundation and Farah Ramzan Golant took over as chief executive officer. Girl Effect partners with philanthropists and grant making institutions, to development partners, and commercial affiliations to advance its mission. Its partners include, Gavi, Vodafone Foundation, Facebook, iSON, BBM, PEPFAR DREAMS, Nutrition International, MRS, UNICEF, DFAT, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Omnicom Group, Oxfam, Rwandan Girl Guides Association, MTN, 9mobile, KaiOS Technologies, StriveTogether, Airtel, AREWA24, Restless Development, CIFF: Children's Investment Fund Foundation, Times Bridge, and Women Deliver.
