Generational theory is a theory developed by William Strauss and Neil Howe that describes repetitive generational cycles in US history.
Generational theory describes the history of the United States, including the 13 colonies. It is this geographical area that has been best studied, but Strauss and Howe also studied generational patterns in other countries and found similar cycles in some developed countries. Despite the fact that the works of the authors were widely disseminated and recognized, the theory was received in different ways in academic circles: some admired the “daring and original statement”, others criticized the theory of generations. The latter drew attention to the lack of accurate empirical data, and also accused the authors of embellishing the real differences between generations.
