Dye penetrant inspection (PT) is one of the nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, allowing to determine minor defects that come to the surface, which cannot be detected just by visual inspection (VT). PT is the most sensitive NDT method. The method is based on capillary penetration of indicator liquids (penetrants) into the materials’ surface defects and subsequent detection and evaluation of indicator traces. PT can be applied to examine objects of any size and shape, made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, glass, ceramics, plastics etc. Dye penetrant inspection allows to determine the location of defects, their extent and orientation on the surface.
