A computer game in the slasher genre developed by Capcom Production Studio 1 and released by Capcom in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. In 2006, a port of the game for Microsoft Windows was released. The game is a prequel to the original Devil May Cry, as well as the first game in chronological order of the series. Even before the release, Devil May Cry 3 was heavily criticized for its high level of difficulty, but also gained fame for innovations and the return of the classic "hardcore" gameplay Devil May Cry.
