Funding Round attributes
DeepIP, a French-American startup specializing in modernizing the patent filing process, has raised $15 million in its latest funding round. This round was led by the AI-focused venture capital fund Resonance, with additional participation from Headline (Mistral AI) and Serena Capital (Dataiku), as well as Balderton Capital. The funding will enable DeepIP to expand its operations across the U.S. and Europe, continue to enhance its AI-driven productivity assistant, and develop more advanced features for patent professionals.
Founded in 2024 by François-Xavier Leduc (CEO) and Edouard d'Archimbaud (CTO), DeepIP seeks to revolutionize the patent filing process, which has remained largely unchanged for the past three decades. The traditional patent filing process is time-consuming, costly, and prone to human error. DeepIP’s AI-powered platform is designed to address these challenges by significantly reducing the time and effort required to draft patents while improving the quality and defensibility of patent applications.
The company’s technology uses AI to assist patent practitioners by automating parts of the drafting and prosecution processes. DeepIP’s platform has already proven effective, with the company reporting that it has helped draft 8,500 patent applications, reducing drafting time by up to 50%. This efficiency improvement has allowed IP firms to increase productivity, retain talent, and produce patents that are more robust and defensible.
DeepIP’s AI combines third-party models, proprietary models, and unique data access to improve performance and minimize errors. The platform’s ability to learn from past patent applications and replicate the writing patterns of individual practitioners and their clients is a key feature. This customization ensures that the platform meets clients’ specific tone and wording requirements, making the technology particularly valuable for firms with specialized needs. Additionally, DeepIP is the only AI-powered patent assistant fully integrated into Microsoft Word, offering a seamless experience for attorneys.
The company’s commitment to data security is evident in its strict Zero Data Retention policy and its compliance with GDPR and ISO certifications, ensuring the confidentiality and safety of client data.
François-Xavier Leduc, CEO of DeepIP, emphasized the rapid success of the company’s product, noting that the platform’s product-market fit was almost immediate. He highlighted that the company’s AI-driven approach allows patent professionals to collaborate with AI, enabling them to work faster, smarter, and more strategically. Leduc also mentioned that feedback from clients, including large IP law firms, has been overwhelmingly positive, with some users expressing a strong desire to integrate the technology into their workflows.
Maxime Le Dantec of Resonance shared his enthusiasm for DeepIP’s potential, stating that the company’s ability to reach seven figures in annual recurring revenue (ARR) within just seven months was a clear indication of the productivity gains it offers to patent practitioners. He expressed confidence that DeepIP will become an essential tool for every IP law firm in the future.
Jonathan Userovici, General Partner at Headline, also praised DeepIP, calling patent filing a critical component of scientific advancement and recognizing the company’s role in building a missing piece in the process. The new funding will allow DeepIP to continue improving its platform and expand its capabilities to further support the needs of patent professionals in a fast-evolving industry.
DeepIP’s innovative use of AI to streamline patent filing represents a significant step forward in legal technology, promising to make the process more efficient, accurate, and scalable for both practitioners and clients.
