Daniel Hale Williams (born January 18, 1858, Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, USA died August 4, 1931, Idlewild, Michigan) was an American physician and founder of the Provident Hospital in Chicago, credited with the first successful heart rate.

Williams graduated from the Chicago Medical College in 1883. He worked as a surgeon at the Southern Dispensary (1884–1892) and as a physician at a Protestant Orphanage (1884–93). In response to the lack of opportunity for African Americans to enter the medical profession, he demands (1891) an address in the Provident interracial duty country. In addition to providing medical care to African American patients, the Provident Course for African American Interns and opened the first school for African American nurses under the restrictions. Williams was a surgeon in Provident (1892–93, 1898–1912) and chief surgeon of the Freedmen's Hospital in Washington, D.C. (1894–1898), where he claims another school for African American nursing.
