In both civilian and DoD settings there exists a wicked waste problem. We throw away unwanted materials and goods as trash at astonishing rates—waste that is expensive to deal with and contains trillions of dollars in trapped resources. In response to this massive problem, we at CarbonCycle LLC have developed a system that captures this trapped value by converting carbon-based waste—scrap tires, mixed plastics, used oil, bio-waste, paper, and wood (to name a few)—into valuable and usable products via our proprietary Advanced Pyrolysis technology. Our system implements a closed loop solution, creating valuable carbon and oil based products through thermal conversion of waste with zero harmful emissions and net positive energy. We have built a full-scale prototype system at our headquarters in Mansfield, MO that has allowed us to attract funding, investment interest, and several large customers poised to purchase the technology to convert their own waste into value. Through work with DAF and DoD personnel on this technology over the past several years and following extensive feasibility analysis we have identified a strong product-market fit for a mobile version of our technology. The Mobile Advanced Pyrolysis system will be a small-scale and deployable system to be used within the DoD as a tool where permanent construction levels are not part of procedure. It will address significant waste and power issues in support of forward-deployed forces at contingency locations—Forward Operating Sites, temporary and semi-permanent locations, Expeditionary MEDical Support Systems (EMEDS). There are also adjacent needs within several US Government organizations supported by the Air Force CRG (FEMA, USAID). We have also clearly identified a similar need in the commercial sphere for a smaller scale version of our technology available for thermal conversion of waste materials for individual businesses, organizations, and smaller communities. The system will be designed to maintain the benefits of our core technology while adding the flexibility and nimbleness of a mobile offering. It will be: Small Scale Optimized - Mixed waste conversion capacity of 2000 lbs per day (1 ton) Mobile & Deployable - Designed for deployment in C-130 Hercules, roll-on/roll-off High Energy Output - Electricity generation capacity up to 1400 kWh daily Sustainable/Clean Waste Removal - No hazardous emissions. Reduce Burn Pit reliance. Material Independence - Turn waste into energy and valuable, usable resources. In response to this identified dual-purpose need we have completed feasibility work on a Mobile Advanced Pyrolysis System and submit this application for a SBIR D2P2 contract. Through the proposed research and development work we will design, develop and test a prototype of the Mobile Advanced Pyrolysis System and develop a plan for transition to Phase III where we will provide a solution to increase the strategic capability of DAF and DoD.
