Ionospheric scintillation can disrupt systems that rely on transionospheric radio wave propagation, including communications, navigation, and radar systems. Advances are needed to improve forecasting accuracy and specification of impacts. Creare and its research partners propose to develop a new global equatorial ionospheric scintillation model that will ingest and fuse data from a diverse array of radio frequency (RF) and space environment sensors. This model will construct phase screens for simulating scintillation conditions encountered by narrowband and wideband communication links, satellite navigation systems, and other RF systems operating at a wide range of frequencies. These phase screens can then be used in tailored scintillation impact products.
