Butamax Advanced Biofuels is a biofuel company developing and commercializing technology for producing bio-isobutanol that is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. The company is a 50/50 joint venture between DuPont and BP, and was formed to commercialize bio-isobutanol as a transportation fuel and chemical industires using technologies developed by both companies.
Butamax Advanced Biofuels works with engineering firms, ethanol producers, logistics partners, and co-products marketers to ensure technologies made but Butamax Advanced Biofuels integrate with the renewable fuel industry. The Butamax Advanced Biofuels team uses microbiology, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics, fermentation science, process engineering, process control, technology piloting and scale-up, and biofuels manufacturing technology to create their products.
According to Butamax Advanced Biofuels bio-isobutanol has the ability to be blended into gasoline at high concentrations than other biofuels which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions without decreasing fuel performance. It can also be used as a cost-effective alternative to be used as either a solvent or building block for a wide range of chemicals.
