This Small Business Innovation Research Phase I project seeks to develop a Advanced Dynamically Configurable Frame Rate throatling Si-CMOS Image Sensor that will provide a wide dynamic range compatible to any light (very high to low lighting) conditions. The proposed CMOS sensors will have a capability of dynamically throttle frame rates (15 Hz – 240 Hz) allowing longer integration time to few photons available in low light conditions and short integration to high light conditions without saturation. The design realized in Phase I through modeling, simulations and analysis will provide a path to develop and manufacture a device that will meet small SWAP-C goals of future image sensors. The design will be further performed, optimized, and fabricated in Phase II during which the frame throttling in the proposed Si-CMOS image sensor will be demonstrated.
