The unit was formed in May 2014 in Mariupol from volunteers, initially as a battalion of the Special Purpose Police Patrol Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in September 2014 it was deployed into a regiment, in November 2014 it was transferred to the National Guard of Ukraine.
