An alumnus of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, he has received various accolades, including a Tony Award, a British Academy Television Award, and a Golden Globe Award, in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, and three British Academy Film Awards.

Andrew Russell Garfield (Eng. Andrew Russell Garfield; born August 20, 1983[1][2], Los Angeles, California) is a British and American actor. Winner of the Tony, Golden Globe and BAFTA TV awards, as well as a Laurence Olivier Award nominee, an Emmy Award nominee, a two-time Oscar nominee and a three-time Screen Actors Guild Award nominee. In 2022, Time magazine included him in the list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
early years
Garfield was born in Los Angeles, California[5]. His mother, Lynn (née Hillman), is from Essex, England, and his father, Richard Garfield, is from California[6][7]. His paternal grandparents were also from the UK[8]. Garfield's parents moved from Los Angeles to the UK when he was three years old, and he grew up in Epsom, Surrey[6][9][10]. Garfield's father is Jewish; Garfield himself was raised outside of any religion and calls himself a "pantheist agnostic"[11], but also considers himself Jewish[12]. His father's parents were Jewish immigrants who moved to London from Eastern Europe (Poland, Russia, Romania) and changed their surname from "Garfinkel" to "Garfield"[8][13].
Garfield's parents previously ran a small interior design business; his mother works as an assistant teacher in a kindergarten, and his father is a head coach at a swimming school[14][15]. He also has an older brother who is a doctor[16]. As a child, Garfield was a gymnast and swimmer. Initially, he planned to study business, but later became interested in acting. Garfield studied at the Priory Preparatory School (English) Russian. and City of London Freemen's School (Eng.)Rus., before enrolling at the Royal School of Drama and Oratory, University of London, graduating in 2004[14][17][18].
Career
Andrew Garfield began his career in theater and television. At the age of 9, Garfield began taking acting classes in Guildford, Surrey, and appeared in a youth theater production of Bugsy Malone. He made his big screen debut with Lions for Lambs (2007), and won a BAFTA Television Award for his performance in Boy A the same year.
Garfield rose to prominence in 2010 with supporting roles in The Social Network and Don't Let Me Go, earning him two BAFTA nominations, a Golden Globe nomination, and a Saturn Award.
The role of Spider-Man in the eponymous dilogy by Mark Webb (2012-2014) brought worldwide fame to Garfield.
In 2016, Andrew Garfield starred in two critically acclaimed dramas, Hacksaw Ridge and Silence. The role of Desmond Doss in the first of the films brought him nominations for Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Actor.
In 2021, he returned to the role of Spider-Man in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker from an alternate universe. In the same year, two more films starring Andrew Garfield were released: The Eyes of Tammy Faye and Tick-Tock, Boom! For the role of Jonathan Larson in the biopic-musical "Tick-tock, boom!" Garfield received a Golden Globe award, as well as the second Oscar nomination in his career.
In addition to filming a movie, Andrew Garfield successfully makes a career in the theater. So, in 2012, he played the role of Biff in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman and was nominated for a Tony Award in the Best Supporting Actor in a Play category. In 2017, Garfield played the role of Pryor Walter in the Royal National Theatre, London's production of Angels in America, for which he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award in the Best Actor category. In 2018, he returned to the same role on Broadway and won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.
In 2022, the Hulu streaming service premiered the mini-series Under the Banner of Heaven, in which Andrew Garfield played his first major role on television as Detective Jeb Pyrie investigating a brutal murder in the Mormon community[20]. For this work, Garfield was first nominated for an Emmy Award - in the category "Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie" [21][22].
In July 2022, it was reported that Andrew Garfield would star in a biographical mini-series about the famous British billionaire Richard Branson, and would also act as one of the executive producers of this project[23].
Personal life
Garfield holds dual US and UK citizenship[24]. According to him, he feels "equally at home" in the US and the UK, and also "enjoys the diversity of cultural existence." Garfield prefers not to publicly discuss the details of his personal life[25].
Garfield dated The Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone since 2010. 3 months before the wedding at the end of 2015, the couple broke up.
