The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has raised concern among personnel (military and civilian) about air quality in buildings and other work areas. Monitoring particle/aerosol concentration in buildings is crucial in minimizing viral transmission and maintaining worker health. HVAC systems can control the indoor air concentration utilizing reliable precise sensor hardware with accurate data capture. We propose to adapt and utilize an American Ecotech (AE) air monitoring sensor technology coupled directly with the buildings air handling system to assess in real-time the overall air quality in DoD buildings, allowing to control the building indoor air quality and simultaneously improve/reduce operating costs of air filtration. Continuously monitoring the levels of particulates flowing in and out of HVAC air handling systems within buildings, we are enabling facility maintenance procedures to be modified based on measured particulate levels (& potentially in future, also for bioaerosol levels).
