Amazon is preparing to launch a "digital currency" project in Mexico. This is reported by Coindesk.
The yet-to-be-announced project was described by the company in a series of recent job postings.
"This product will allow customers to convert their money into digital currency that customers can use in online services, including purchases of goods and/or services such as Prime Video," Amazon said of the "new payment product" in one job posting.
Amazon's Digital and Emerging Payments (DEP) division plans to launch the product in Mexico. The job description hints that the product appears to be focused on emerging markets.
The DEP and Amazon teams did not respond to Coindesk's requests for comment.
