The method of obtaining
Aquavit is made on the basis of alcohol obtained by distillation from potatoes or, less frequently, grains without added sugar, infused with spices, which may include cumin, dill, coriander, cinnamon, fennel, anise, St John's wort and others[1] and aged in oak barrels or in sherry or cognac barrels from 3 months to 12 years[2]. Aquavit is usually straw-golden to dark brown in color, with some varieties being colorless. A darker color may indicate either that the product has been aged longer or that "young" barrels were used during production.
