Aby Warburg (born June 13, 1866, in Hamburg, and died October 26, 1929, also in Hamburg) was a German art historian and cultural theorist. He received his education at the University of Bonn. Warburg is best known as the founder of the Warburg Institute, which is an interdisciplinary research institution focused on art history, cultural history, and intellectual history.
