Along with 16S and ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer), 18S sequencing is a type of amplicon sequencing used for microbial identification and phylogeny studies of samples from complicated microbiomes or environments. The 18S rRNA found in eukaryotes is homologous to 16S rRNA found in prokaryotes.
