Vilnius University, also known as Vilniaus Universitetas, is a public educational institute located in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was founded in 1579 by Stephen Báthory and focuses on education, higher education, and university industries. The university's motto is "Hinc itur ad astra".
Vilnius University is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science, Lithuania and is affiliated with various organizations, including the Coimbra Group, European University Association, Utrecht Network, and ISEP network.
The university has several subsidiaries, such as the Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University Faculty of Communication, Vilnius University Astronomical Observatory, Vilnius University Foundation, Vilnius University Observatory, Vilnius University Library, Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, and Vilnius University Business School. It has also spun out a company called NanoAvionika, LLC.
Over the years, Vilnius University has received awards such as the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. Additionally, the university has been assigned 14 patents.
