Uni, also known as Uni-ball and Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd., is a global manufacturer that makes various types of pens. It was founded in 1887 in Tokyo by Niroku Masaki nearly a decade after he had been inspired by seeing a pencil for the first time at the Paris World Fair in 1878. After having established a contract with the Japanese government to manufacture pencils specifically for governmental purposes, Masaki started expanding his company. Today the company has offices in more than twenty-five countries across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
The company has no relation to the conglomerate Mitsubishi Group. It is a separate entity of its own with a different founder. Its present-day name comes from a shortened version of the word "unique."
Uni makes pencils and pens that can be used in a variety of contexts, including professional, creative, and casual for activities such as bullet journaling.
Uni-ball has a wider range of pens than pencils. Types of pens include the following:

One type of pen that Uni sells
- ballpoint pens
- gel pens
- porous point pens
- rollerball pens
- fineliner markers
- fineliner drawing pens
The ink in Uni-ball's pens is its trademarked ink that is marketed as permanent and fade-resistant.
The company manufactures both traditional wooden pencils and mechanical pencils. Some of its mechanical pencils use a technology that was developed by Uni that rotates and sharpens the lead each time it touches paper.
