The Sunday app allows restaurant customers to pay for their food via a QR code. The code can be generated within thirty seconds. According to the startup, the app is 30 percent less expensive than other payment methods, results in 40 percent more tips, and saves fifteen minutes of time per table.
The app—aside from offering the restaurant menu—directly connects to the cash register system, and is compatible with Oracle Micros, Brinks, Tiller, Zelty, Revo, CashPad, and other POS systems. At present, Sunday has raised a $24 million seed round at a $140 million post-money valuation.
Sunday is live in the United States. Adoption rates are expected to be high, as QR codes have grown in popularity since the pandemic. The app is also appealing to operators because it uses a percent-based (as opposed to a transaction-based) commission fee.
