Studio Roosegaarde creates landscapes with creativity and design. As the social design lab, Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde and his team of designers and engineers connect people and technology in artworks that improve daily life in urban environments, spark imagination, and fight the climate crisis. Clean air, clean water, clean energy, and clean space are the company's new values.
Smog Free Project is a campaign for clean air that Daan Roosegaarde leads to reduce air pollution and provide an inspirational experience of a clean future, including a series of urban innovations such as the Smog Free Tower, which provides a local solution of clean air in public spaces. It combines workshops with governments, students, and the clean-tech industry to work together and make a whole city smog-free. Recent Smog Free Project campaigns have been launched in South Korea, China, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Poland. Clients such as green companies or cities can commission a Smog Free Project campaign which includes a Smog Free Tower, Smog Free Rings, project management, and innovation workshops.
Smog Free Tower provides a local solution for clean air such as in parks. It is a 7-meter tall aluminum tower using only 1170 watts of green electricity and positive ionization technology. The function of the Smog Free Tower has been validated by the results compiled by the Eindhoven University of Technology.
Studio Roosegaarde designs the Smog Free Ring. Creating a tangible souvenir, Roosegaarde designs it of compressed smog particles. By sharing the ring, one donates 1000 m3 of clean air to the city. The ring is also in the permanent art collection of the National Museum Zurich and Stedelijk Amsterdam.
Smog Free Bicycle draws its inspiration from the Smog Free workshop in Beijing which features artist Matt Hope and Professor Yang from Tsinghua University. The innovative bicycle inhales polluted air, cleans it, and releases clean air around the cyclist.
