Rivne region, also referred to as Rivnenshchyna is a region (oblast, province) of Ukraine. Its administrative center is Rivne. The surface area of the region is 20,100 km². Its population is: 1,148,456 (2021 est.). Previously part of the Second Republic of Poland's Wojewódstwo Wołyńskie and earlier the Ukrainian People's Republic's Volhynian Governorate, the Rivne Oblast was created as part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on December 4, 1939 after the Soviet invasion and occupation of eastern Poland on 17 September 1939.
Before 1992, under the policy of Russification, the region was officially known under its Russian name of Rovno Oblast.
The Rivne Nuclear Power Plant is located in the oblast, near the city of Varash.

On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Rivne Oblast was reduced to four, and the area of Rivne Raion was significantly expanded. The January 2020 estimate of the raion population was 92,981 (2020 est.)
