The company was founded in 1876 by Gustav Paulig (1850-1907), who had arrived in the Grand Duchy of Finland from the German town of Lübeck. At first the company dealt with the importation to Finland and sale of colonial products and groceries: coffee, spices, port wine, cognac, salt, flour and others. In 1904 the company began roasting coffee in a special warehouse in Helsinki.
Owners and management
The owners of the company are the Paulig family. The managing director is Rolf Ladau.
The company specializes in the roasting of natural coffee (65% of the Finnish market in 2009, this area is handled by a subsidiary, Gustav Paulig Ltd.), the production of liquid chocolate, spices and ethnic cuisine products. The Paulig Group is active in the markets in Northern Europe, the Baltic countries, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
The company employs 2,000 people (2018). The Paulig Group's revenue in 2008 was 700 million euros.
