The company used their platform called Panbiotics to engineer probiotics to improve animal health and performance. Pando helps organizations such as government or startups to design, test and commercialize new probiotics using their proprietary strains and production techniques. The company’s initial market is the poultry industry in the US but they plan to expand into cattle and other livestock.

Pando uses recombinant DNA technology to engineer probiotic yeast strains that support beneficial gut bacteria, improve digestion and decrease the need for antibiotics. The company has a mission to interrupt the progression of the antibiotic resistance crises. Using probiotics instead of antibiotics prevents the evolution of antibiotic-resistant microbes in animals, which can infect humans and cause disease. The yeast probiotics can be engineered to produce bio-functional compounds that can improve animal wellness.
