Omega (Special Forces of Ukraine)

The Omega Special Purpose Detachment was established on April 4, 2003 by order of the Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine . The unit is staffed by paratroopers , combat swimmers and mountain training specialists. The letter omega is taken as the basis of heraldic symbolism and the name of this formation of power structures . The name "Omega" in the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not appear by chance, because "omega" is the last letter of the Greek alphabet ( Greek ωμέγα ), ie - to be final (and have the "last word" as well).

A separate detachment is stationed in the village of Novi Petrivtsi, Kyiv region, on the basis of unit 3027 and the training center of the National Guard.

The unit was formed as a part of a separate brigade of special purpose of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine "Leopard" to carry out special measures to combat terrorism in conditions of extreme complication. In 2015, he was removed from the brigade staff and subordinated to the Main Directorate of the NMU. The personnel are highly trained, trained in anti-terrorist measures, the release of hostages, the elimination of illegal armed groups, and the protection of particularly important individuals.

And on January 12, 2014, a decision was made on the joint service of "Omega" with the special unit "Vega" against terrorism .

After the restoration of the National Guard of Ukraine, Omega was withdrawn from the Leopard Brigade and has central subordination.

The special forces showed all their professionalism during the anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country. Many of these operations are heard throughout Ukraine: the liberation of Kramatorsk airfield, the city of Mariupol, the storming and liberation of the city of Slavyansk.
