Monterey Bay FC was established on February 21, 2021. The team plays in the USL Championship League in the Western Conference. The club is affiliated with the Fresno FC franchise, owened by Ray Beshoff. In 2019, Fresno FC collapsed due to having nowhere to play. Because of this, the team relocated to Monteray Bay. The club is also known as the Union,"representing the greatest union of land and sea, people and place."Their colors reflect the blue hues of the water around the bay, the canyons and the forests.
The club plays its home games at Cardinale Stadium (formerly known as Freeman Stadium) in Monterey County, California, on California State University's campus. Monterey Bay FC's current sporting director is two-time MLS Coach of the Year, Frank Yallop, a former general manager for Fresno FC.
The 2022 roster includes players from eleven different countries: the United States, Guam, Canada, Jamaica, Liberia, El Salvador, Scotland, Cameroon, Dominican Republic, England, and Panama.
