Metalenz

Metalenz specializes in the design and manufacture of a flat lens system that utilizes a technology called optical metasurfaces. Metalenz sells its meta-optical lens systems for high-volume applications, including consumer electronics, augmented and virtual reality, mobile phones, and automotive sensing. The company applies its meta-optics technology to displace conventional optics in three product areas: pattern generators, imaging lenses, and diffusers. Metalenz's products include the following:

• PolarEyes—an advanced optical sensing solution that provides privacy features, at-home healthcare accessibility, and driver alerts to road safety hazards
• Imaging lens—3D sensing imaging systems for time-of-flight cameras, structured light, eye tracking, and active stereo vision applications
• Gemini—switchable illuminators for compact and low-cost, depth-sensing systems
• Orion—dot projectors that enable 3D depth-sensing on smartphones
• Illumination optics—optics that can be used in a variety of high-volume applications, including proximity sensing and time-of-flight imaging
• Dot pattern generators—these measure accuracy in structured light and time-of-flight 3D imaging systems.

A camera built around a metaoptical system can produce a high-quality, high-brightness image and provide new forms of sensing in smartphones. The resulting images have the sharpness of a multi-lens system, and the nanostructures reduce or eliminate many of the image-degrading aberrations common to traditional cameras. The Metlenz camera can deliver more light back to the image sensor, allowing for brighter and sharper images than those of traditional lens elements.
