Mary of Hungary (governor of the Netherlands)

Mary of Hungary (governor of the Netherlands) was born on September 15, 1505 in Brussels. She held Belgian citizenship and was known as the queen of Hungary and Bohemia through her marriage to King Louis II. She later served as the governor of the Habsburg Netherlands.

Mary was the daughter of Philip I of Castile and Joanna of Castile. She had various occupations, including Queen consort and regent.

Mary of Hungary was the founder of Mariemont, Belgium. She also owned the Arnolfini Portrait, Mariemont, and The Descent from the Cross (van der Weyden). She passed away on October 18, 1558, in Cigales.
