John Atcheson is an American businessman, serial entrepreneur, executive board member, founder and CEO of SellAlong, and founder and former CEO of Stuffstr. Atcheson holds a Bachelor's degree in economics and music from Brown University and a MBA from Stanford University School of Business.
John Atcheson worked as the director of marketing for DigiDesign before leaving to found MusicNet, an interactive music service, in 1990, where he served as the CEO until 1996. Atcheson also served as the CEO and Chairman of MNI Interactive, the corporate entity for MusicNet from 1994 to 1996. From 1997 to 1998, Atcheson was vice president and general manager of media publishing for RealNetworks, a Seattle-based streaming audio and video software company. In 2000, Atcheson founded Ads.com, a source for advertisement information backed by the venture capital arm of News Corp., where he served as CEO until 2002. In 2008, Atcheson founded SparkWords, a social media discussion platform backed by Epic Ventures, where he served as CEO until 2010. From 2010 to 2012, Atcheson was vice president at Getaround, a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace. From 2012 to 2013, Atcheson was the COO at Grist, a nonprofit news organization focused on environmental news, commentary, and advice. In 2014, Atcheson founded Stuffster, an online shopping platform dedicated to reducing waste through instant buy-back of retail purchases. He served as CEO until the company suspended operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Atcheson founded Sellalong, a public benefit corporation (B Corp) recommerce company with an app for tracking and reselling purchases, and serves as CEO.
Atcheson has served on the board of directors for the Seattle Symphony, Sightline Institute, and as an advisor for Getaround and CauliBox. He is a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular Economy 100, a global platform of corporations, startups, and governments dedicated to accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
