Funding Round attributes
Lisbon-based Indie Campers, a company specializing in road trip planning and recreational vehicle rentals, has raised a total of €62.5 million in funding across two rounds over the past year. The most recent funding round contributed €27.5 million to this total. The funding round was led by Indico Capital Partners and Banco Português de Fomento. The investments are intended to support the development and scaling of Indie Campers’ digital platform, which integrates vehicle rentals and trip planning tools across multiple regions.
Founded in 2013 by Hugo Oliveira, who remains CEO, Indie Campers offers a platform designed to streamline road trip logistics and support travelers in planning their journeys. The company operates a fleet of over 7,000 recreational vehicles (RVs) owned by Indie Campers as well as vehicles listed by individual and professional hosts. Its services cover Europe, North America, and Oceania, with operational support and booking tools available in more than 70 cities.
Indie Campers aims to make road trips more accessible by improving travel systems and reducing costs for users. The company has facilitated over 500,000 nights rented through its platform, serving more than 100,000 travelers from over 130 countries. Its offerings include RV rentals, campervan subscriptions, and vehicle sales, providing multiple options for road trip enthusiasts.
The recent funding will be used to further develop Indie Campers’ digital platform and expand its operations. Hugo Oliveira highlighted in a LinkedIn post that the new investment reflects the strong results achieved in partnership with investors and reinforces the company’s vision to reinvent the global road trip experience. He added that the funds would enable Indie Campers to recruit over 100 new team members across key departments such as technology and customer experience to support the company’s scaling efforts in Europe, North America, and Oceania.
In addition to platform development, Indie Campers is actively seeking to expand its workforce, opening positions for individuals interested in working at the intersection of travel and technology. This recruitment drive aligns with the company’s broader growth strategy to increase both its service offerings and geographic presence.
Stefan Koeppl, a co-founder of Indie Campers, departed the company in March 2015. Since then, Hugo Oliveira has continued to lead the company’s growth and development.
Indie Campers’ platform provides a comprehensive solution for road trip planning, combining vehicle rental logistics with location-based travel guidance and operational support. This integration aims to enhance the overall travel experience for users by simplifying access to vehicles and streamlining trip management.
The company’s fleet and platform support a growing user base across multiple continents, reflecting its commitment to expanding the accessibility of road trips on a global scale. With the recent funding, Indie Campers is positioned to continue this expansion while enhancing the technological infrastructure that supports its services.
