Encrypgen is a company making a blockchain-based peer-to-peer DNA data market place that was founded by David Koepsell and Vanessa Gonzalez Covarrubias in 1985. The company offers a blockchain-based network for sharing genetic data called the Gene-Chain, and also offers other DNA related products and services. The Gene-Chain empowers users to store and monetize their genetic data by sharing it with buyers looking to obtain genetic data such as research scientists and health related service providers. Encrypgen is partnered with Viazoi and Codigo46 to offer its users DNA test kits.
Gene-Chain miners are rewarded with DNA tokens, which are the medium of exchange on the Gene-Chain marketplace. DNA tokens are ERC-20 cryptocurrency tokens and are available for purchase on many cryptocurrency exchanges.
People purchasing DNA data using Encrypgen can create customized filters for searching through the company's DNA database and buy the DNA directly from the individual owners of the DNA data. All DNA purchased on the Encrypgen platform has been de-identified so the buyers, or other users, cannot identify people based on their genetic profiles. The DNA data offered on Encrypgen is not associated with real world identities.
On May 4, 2017 Encrypgen announced raising $500,000 in seed funding from undisclosed investors. At the time of raising the seed funding Encrypgen had a pre-money valuation of $1 million.
